The Strata Collection, inspired by the layered strata of sedimentary rock, each piece reads like weathered stone – irregular surface below, smooth above, inviting touch. Two highly polished aluminum lines run across the form at a unified height — like veins of quartz through mountainside, or a high-water mark on monolithic rock. The aluminum echoes the concrete layer lines, turning the printing process into design language.

Designed by Mangrove, the Strata Collection draws from geological forms – patterns of sediment, time, and accumulation, reinterpreted through algorithmic methods. Each piece is approached as a study in tension: between mass and detail, weight and refinement, the digital tool and the human hand.
Process
The Strata Collection is printed in Selective Paste Intrusion (SPI) – the highest-resolution concrete 3D printing process available today. Our extrusion-based concrete printer forms structures layer by layer, producing geometries no other concrete process can reach.
The print method leaves its own signature across fine layer lines that emerge across each surface, much like growth rings in wood – a record of the printing process visible in the finished piece. Each chair is hand-finished in our Caledonia, Michigan headquarters.
